Hole of the Week 1: Deacon's Lodge #17

We play 63 different holes during the Cahoona week. I thought I would post a "Cahoona Hole of the Week" each week between now and the 2007 Cahoona. Each week's post will hopefully remind you of some favorite memory you have of the hole and can share with the group. It also will serve to keep those memories in the forefront throughout the year.
This week's hole is #17 at Deacon's Lodge (click on the above image for a larger view of the hole). This is a wonderfully designed hole with it's three different looks from the green; it is the backdrop that makes the hole for me. I think of so many evenings when we have played this hole at dusk during our scramble to finish our scramble before dark.
Often we see multiple flags on the green from the teebox because a string of birdies earlier in the round has impaired our vision. I hear Caey yelling "shut up!" to a loon noisily flying overhead.
I don't remember many birdies on this hole; either individually or in scramble. I believe this is where Kirby tried to kill FNG early in the 2006 Cahoona trip.
Ring in with your memories, thoughts, likes, dislikes, etc. of this particular hole.

Gee, thanks, just the hole I wanted to be reminded of. Three over on the back Friday after I'd birdied 14, I doubled #15 (no. 2 hdcp) and then rallied to par 16. At plus 5 on the back side, a decent wedge off the easy white tees on 17 could set me up for at least a shot at breaking 80 with a birdie on either 17 or 18.
Wedge #1: water, wedge #2: chunk. Wedge #3: over, wedge #4: I lofted at the loons on the lake (laughing bastards)with a found Callaway (emo?) wedge #5: short of pin by 20. I putted to within 10 then took the power-gimme for a smooth double par (screw the penalty) finally tripling 18 for a solid 46.
Thanks again for the fond memory.
