Hole of the Week #25 - The Pines Lakes #7

This is a truly great hole and the piece de resistance of the best three hole sequence on the Cahoona trip. Pin placement means everything. A back left pin makes for a very tough hole. A front right pin brings the trap into play.

I remember short birdie putts after a favorable kick off the wood planks. I remember shots that looked wet off the tee but were long enough to catch the back left corner of the green. I remember shots out of the trees on top close enough to scare birdie. I remember shots out of the trap into the lake.

When I think of the Pines Lakes, I think of this hole. This is as good a signature hole as I remember anywhere.

I never will forget a particularly awful round at the Lakes when I not only flew the the trees right of the green, but the lumber as well. Ball hit the cart path, took one bounce forward, kicked left on to the lumber, gathered momentum down the timber trail, nearly hit the pin, arced across the green and somehow came to rest below the sand trap, almost in the lake.

Spectacular start to yet another double-bogie in a 50-something, no birdie-beer round.

I hate this hole. Only I could figure a way to hit it so far right that it stuck up on that hill. Give me a 6 in the pocket.
