Deacon's photos

Check out this site http://peterwongphotography.com for awesome pictures of Deacons' and other great courses. They're real expensive, unfortunately, and he's got a block on the site so you can't download any. There were several of his prints hanging in the pro shop and some in Tiger #1 as well.

I wish I would have been at that party...

...I guess I was!

Hole of the Week 1: Deacon's Lodge #17

We play 63 different holes during the Cahoona week. I thought I would post a "Cahoona Hole of the Week" each week between now and the 2007 Cahoona. Each week's post will hopefully remind you of some favorite memory you have of the hole and can share with the group. It also will serve to keep those memories in the forefront throughout the year.

This week's hole is #17 at Deacon's Lodge (click on the above image for a larger view of the hole). This is a wonderfully designed hole with it's three different looks from the green; it is the backdrop that makes the hole for me. I think of so many evenings when we have played this hole at dusk during our scramble to finish our scramble before dark.

Often we see multiple flags on the green from the teebox because a string of birdies earlier in the round has impaired our vision. I hear Caey yelling "shut up!" to a loon noisily flying overhead.

I don't remember many birdies on this hole; either individually or in scramble. I believe this is where Kirby tried to kill FNG early in the 2006 Cahoona trip.

Ring in with your memories, thoughts, likes, dislikes, etc. of this particular hole.

Road Trip!

It is hard to read this story without thinking of our Cahoona outing.

Dear Divot

Dear Divot:

I am trying to figure something out. I was recently on a golf outing with a group of friends. One day, in a druken stupor, one of the guys said that “we may not be Ivy Leaguers but we won’t starve in a wind storm”.

Everyone, including me, laughed at the comment. But I didn't get it. I didn't want to look stupid and ask.

What did he mean? What does wind have to do with hunger or starvation? Should I be concerned about wind? Should I have gone to an Ivy League school? Can I still eat pizza? Will Harvard beat Yale this year? Does this have something to do with being bilingual and speaking three languages?

Please advise.

Cure for the Cahoona Blues

Here is an article that may be of interest to you if, somehow, you find yourself overindulging anytime in the near future. Let's just go ahead and put these items on the Cahoona grocery shopping list already.
