Hole of the Week #26 - The Preserve #10

Nothing like a a visit to the men's room to give a new perspective for the back nine. Just don't be long on your approach. Don't be right either. And be sure to put it tight because this green is like putting at the Cosmos. Fresh nine and I start it with a double every time. Oh well. It is a scenic hole and it beats the shit out of work!!!

The Aficionado's Cutter

Perhaps Casey can request one of these mounted on the front of all the Grandview Courses' golf carts. At least my cigar will reflect some perfection on the golf course.

Hole of the Week #25 - The Pines Lakes #7

This is a truly great hole and the piece de resistance of the best three hole sequence on the Cahoona trip. Pin placement means everything. A back left pin makes for a very tough hole. A front right pin brings the trap into play.

I remember short birdie putts after a favorable kick off the wood planks. I remember shots that looked wet off the tee but were long enough to catch the back left corner of the green. I remember shots out of the trees on top close enough to scare birdie. I remember shots out of the trap into the lake.

When I think of the Pines Lakes, I think of this hole. This is as good a signature hole as I remember anywhere.

A Bumper Sticker for Both Parties

It says: "Run, Hillary Run!"

Democrats put it on the back bumper

Republicans put it on the front bumper.

What He Should Have Said

"As he announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate Wednesday, Al Franken confronted the central question he may face in the early going-- whether a lifelong comic should be taken seriously"

"Minnesotans have a right to be skepical", Franken said, (then the usual blah, blah politician BS)

What he should have said:

Why the Hell not, Minnesota elected Mark Dayton, didn't it?

Immigration Illustrated

I have watched many internet/email videos over the years. I don't think I've seen one that was as impressive as this. This really does call one to action. This is perhaps the best use of props in a presentation ever! I'm interested in your comments.

(You might start the video, then pause for a few minutes to give it a chance to buffer.)

Funny Russian

This Russian guy's Live Journal has a variety of humorous advertising gimmicks that are worth a look. See any worthy of the Cahoona ashtray?

Hole of the Week #24 - Deacon's Lodge #13

Another Deacon's hole on which I remember no one ever on the course; whether behind us, in front of us or next to us. Big drives here as the ball rolls over the hill after about 210-220 yards out. Plenty of camels lurking around the green. I wish I was playing this today!

Cahoona Advisor

SkyKap LLC presented at the PGA Merchandise Show a rather unique and interesting new Golf accessory, GPS enabled Golf Caps and Visors that is just what every Cahoona needs.

The Advisor is a GPS Golf aid. This new accessory is completely hands free operated and is controlled with voice commands.

If you are afraid that during a windy day or in high noise spots the Advisor won’t pick up your commands or that someone might sabotage your game by shouting the wrong commands, fear not, since sound is picked up from bone conduction and as a result Advisor is unsusceptible to wind noise and side chatter as it only “hears” the wearer. That would be challenging enough - can you imagine if this device could also pickup on the Cahoona "chatter". I can see fellow Cahoonas trying to sabotage each other by giving each other's Advisors misinformation!

The GPS data collected by the cap are continually tracked against the map of the selected golf course in order to calculate the distances to green leading/center/trailing, water bunkers and fairway boundaries and whisper them in your ear upon your “voice” command. In order to download course maps from Skykaps website you will have to connect your hat to your PC’s USB port.

The product hasn’t been released yet as far as I can tell and there is no information about pricing for the caps or the course maps services. Cahoonas need not hold their collective breath for this one!

Radar Detector with GPS Memorizes Speed Traps

The Passport 9500i is a radar detector that has GPS loaded into it, giving you even more of an excuse to get your fellow Cahoonas to their designated tee time faster without worrying about getting busted.

The GPS doesn't do anything fancy like tell you where the clubhouse is or give you your yardage to the pin — no, that would be boring. Instead, it memorizes the locations of speed traps to better warn you about hidden 5-0, and can also memorize locations of false alarms so you aren't always hearing an alarm when you pass a convenience store with an automatic door and a microwave.

It's a whopping $450, which is enough to cover the birdie beers on a Cahoona Scramble through Pine Beach West, but yet much more expensive than the cheaper alternative of obeying traffic laws and driving safely.

Put it on Kirby's birthday wish list.

Why I sold my Boat

Here's a photo of the marina where I used to keep my baby in Pierre, taken from where the normal water level used to be before 8 years of drought. Yikes. The really hard part is having to admit Al Gore may actually be right about something.

Hole of the Week #24 - The Preserve #7

"Cosmos"-type putting in the middle of this green has been cause for more than one Cahoona "power-gimme". This is a very difficult hole and I do not remember any birdies in spite of the relatively short length. I'm sure Kirby will remind us of his several incredible putts for birdies over the years. I'm looking forward to that!

More than one Cahoona has lost a couple of strokes in the Sahara on the front left. I remember incidents of much flying sand and many "F"-bombs. I like this hole as it leads to a good finish on the front.

WTF!!??

No Joy in AZ

I know Kirbo loves it, but, watching my UA Wildcats self-destruct this month has been nearly as bad as Jean VandeVelde torching the British or Phil and Monte both tanking the US Open on the last hole. OUCH. This is one of the funnier sports cartoons I've seen in quite awhile.

Do You Know Anyone Who Would Wear This Shirt?
